VA in a Nutshell...

...cuz it's full of nuts.

So, i'm driving up a country road with my momma one day, on our way back from the proverbial "town," and we pass a house where lives the not-so-neat-and-tidy children of the long gone owner who kept it immaculate and lovely.  Mom looks disapprovingly at the property, purses her lips and says,

"If Joe could come back and see what they've done to his place, he'd RE-DIE!"

(Joe is not his real name, btw.)

So, i start HOWLING laughing.  Re-die!  Oh my gawd.  Hysterical!

And now that i'm in the midst of one of the shittiest days of my entire life (don't ask, but you can guess who's the source of the shit-storm), i imagine my mom saying that and it perks me up from the little hell in which i'm currently dwelling.

Thanks, Mom!

That's all for now.  More on Virginia later.  I've got hundreds of photos to edit for anxious customers.  On! On!

Young Folks

Are they kidding me with how great this song it? I dunno why, but Swedish music has been in my ears a lot lately. I'm late catching that boat, but glad i finally got on board.

Young Folks

If I told you things I did before
Told you how I used to be
Would you go along with someone like me?
If you knew my story word for word
Had all of my history
Would you go along with someone like me?

I did before and had my share
It didn't lead nowhere
I would go along with someone like you
It doesn't matter what you did
Who you were hanging with
We could stick around and see this night through

And we don't care about the young folks
Talking about the young style
And we don't care about the old folks
Talking about the old style too
And we don't care about their own faults
Talking about our own style
All we care about is talking
Talking only me and you

Usually when things has gone this far
People tend to disappear
No one will surprise me unless you do

I can tell there's something going on
Hours seems to disappear
Everyone is leaving, I'm still with you

It doesn't matter what we do
Where we are going to
We can stick around and see this night through

And we don't care about the young folks
Talking about the young style
And we don't care about the old folks
Talking about the old style too
And we don't care about their own faults
Talking about our own style
All we care about is talking
Talking only me and you

And we don't care about the young folks
Talking about the young style
And we don't care about the old folks
Talking about the old style too
And we don't care about their own faults
Talking about our own style
All we care about is talking
Talking only me and you
Talking only me and you

Talking only me and you
Talking only me and you

Blame it on the Tetons

Okay, seriously. I've run into a Mouse fan here or there and it's always the same upon discovery: we pause to look deeply into one another's eyes, share a moment of absolute unspoken understanding, hold a moment of silence for the awesomeness (in the truest sense of the word) that is Modest Mouse, then go about life a little happier because we know one more person in the world who Gets It.

This isn't a video; it's just the music, so scroll down and soak up those lyrics.

Blame it on the Tetons

Blame it on the Tetons
Yeah, I need a scapegoat now
No, my dog won't bite you
Though it had the right to
You ought to give her credit
Because she knows I would've let it happen

Blame it on the weekends
God, I need a cola now
Oh, we mumble loudly
Wear our shame so proudly
Wore our blank expressions
Trying to look interesting
Blame it all on me because
God, I need a cold one now

All them eager actors
Gladly taking credit for the lines created
By the people tucked away from sight
Is just a window from the room we're bound to
If you find a way out
Oh, would you just let me know how?
Would you just let me know how?

Blame it on the web
But the spider's your problem now
Language is the liquid
That we're all dissolved in
Great for solving problems
After it creates a problem
Blame it on the Tetons
God, I need a scapegoat now

Everyone's a building burning
With no one to put the fire out
Standing at the window looking out
Waiting for time to burn us down
Everyone's an ocean drowning
With no one really to show how
They might get a little better air
If they turned themselves into a cloud

The Story

The Story

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true...I was made for you
I climbed across the mountain tops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules
But baby I broke them all for you
Because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
You do
I was made for you
You see the smile that's on my mouth
It's hiding the words that don't come out
And all of my friends who think that I'm blessed
They don't know my head is a mess
No, they don't know who I really am
And they don't know what
I've been through like you do
And I was made for you...
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true...I was made for you

Satellite Skin { i'm in lerve, really bad }

Modest Mouse, i could have like 500 of your babies.  Your lyrics kill me.  And i love your voice.  And the rest of the band is awesome, too.  But the lyrics?  Sigh.

3rd Planet { this song bleeds me }

This song makes me cry. It makes me think of our miscarriage in Dec. 2007. Several lines just stab my heart: "And baby cum angels fly around you,Reminding you that we used to be three and not two"

and

"Well, the 3rd had just been made and we're swimming in the water.
Didn't know then, was it a son, was it a daughter?"

and when we lost our house:
"Everything that keeps me together is falling apart"

This song just moves my old pain around a little bit, and that's okay. It reminds me that I'm okay now. Those events changed me. Oh, they changed me. But that's okay. Sometimes life is about destruction. I will LIVE until i die.

Now listen.

3rd Planet

Everything that keeps me together is falling apart,
I've got this thing that I consider my only art of fuck!ng people over.
My boss just quit the job,
Says he's goin' out to find blind spots, and he'll do it.
The 3rd Planet is sure that they're being watched,
By an eye in the sky that can't be stopped,
When you get to the promised land,
You're gonna shake that eye's hand.

Your heart felt good.
It was drippin' pitch and made of wood.
And your hands and knees,
Felt cold and wet on the grass beneath,
While outside naked, shiverin', looking blue,
From the cold sunlight that's reflected off the moon
And baby cum angels fly around you,
Reminding you that we used to be three and not two,
And that's how the world began.
And that's how the world will end.

Well, the 3rd had just been made and we're swimming in the water.
Didn't know then, was it a son, was it a daughter?
And it occurred to me that the animals are swimming,
Around in the water in the oceans, in our bodies,
And another had been found, another ocean on the planet,
Given that our blood is just like the Atlantic, and how.
Well, the universe is shaped exactly like the earth;
If you go straight long enough you'll end up where you were.
And the universe is shaped exactly like the earth;
If you go straight long enough you'll end up where you were.
And the universe is shaped exactly like the earth...

Your heart felt good.
It was drippin' pitch and made of wood.
And your hands and knees,
Felt cold and wet on the grass beneath
While outside naked, shiverin', looking blue,
From the cold sunlight that's reflected off the moon
And baby cum angels fly around you,
Reminding you that we used to be three and not two,
And that's how the world began.
And that's how the world will end.

Well, the 3rd had just been made and we're swimming in the water.
Didn't know then, was it a son, was it a daughter?
And it occurred to me that the animals are swimming,
Around in the water in the oceans, in our bodies,
And another had been found, another ocean on the planet,
Given that our blood is just like the Atlantic, and how.
Well, the universe is shaped exactly like the earth;
If you go straight long enough you'll end up where you were.
And the universe is shaped exactly like the earth;
If you go straight long enough you'll end up where you were.
And the universe is shaped exactly like the earth...

Everything that keeps me together is falling apart,
I've got this thing that I consider my only art of fuck!ng people over.

Sigh. Andrew VanWyngarden. Yum. And This Song is Amazing

Andrew VanWyngarden is My New Crack (or He Just May Be the Devil)

I have been listening to MGMT non-stop for about 48 hours now. Andrew VanWyngarden's voice penetrates me like...something really penetrating. And listening to MGMT is 10 times better than eating chocolate (not that i've been doing that lately). And have you looked at him? Hawt. Burning hawt.

here's the "Kids" video, which may be disturbing to those of you who like small children. (See interview below the video if you fall under that category)

And an interview with the yummy deliciousness known as Andrew VanWyngarden:

I Miss You (There seems to be a theme going on here)

To see you when I wake up
is a gift I didn't think could be real.
To know that you feel the same as I do
is a three-fold, utopian dream.
You do something to me that I can't explain.
So would I be out of line if I said,
I miss you.
I see your picture, I smell your skin on the empty pillow next to mine.
You have only been gone ten days, but already I'm wasting away.
I know I'll see you again
whether far or soon.
But I need you to know that I care
and I miss you.

I Miss You So Far (Cemetery Drive)

This night, walk the dead
In a solitary style
And crash the cemetery gates.
In the dress your husband hates
Way down, mark the grave
Where the search lights find us
Drinking by the mausoleum door
And they found you on the bathroom floor

I miss you, I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard

Back home, off the run
Singing songs that make you slit your wrists
It isn't that much fun, staring down a loaded gun
So I won't stop dying, won't stop lying (are you there at all?)
If you want I'll keep on crying (do you care at all?)
Did you get what you deserve? (are you there at all?)
Is this what you always want me for?

I miss you, I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard

Way down, way down
Way down, way down
Way down, way down
Way down, way down

I miss you, I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard

When will I miss you, when will I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard
Made it so hard

Way down, way down
Way down, way down
Way down, way down
Way down, way down
Way down...

Turn up the sound. Focus on the boy in the red shirt (sorry, sister, your 15 minutes will have to wait). This makes me smile. Just what I needed after last week! You go, boy!

Bryce's Musical Talent

We have a lot of musical talent in our family: Todd plays some guitar, Allie plays guitar, keyboard and cello (and anything else you put in front of her), Zane plays the trumpet and some drums. Bryce is only beginning to develop his talent. As for The Cuteness Factor, he's already got that down.
